Questions

Do I need my own model subscriptions?

Not necessarily, and this is a real choice rather than a default. You can bring your own Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or xAI credentials on any plan including Free, in which case you pay those providers directly and Consortium takes no cut. Or you can buy Consortium credits and use managed models through us, which is a resale arrangement we mark up. Most people bring their own keys.

Can I bring my own provider keys?

Yes, on every plan including Free. Consortium runs the agent CLI on your machine using your existing keys and subscriptions as-is. Using your own keys inside a Consortium-hosted cloud session is a paid feature, because that session runs on our compute regardless of whose model key pays for the tokens.

What exactly do I get for free?

The whole local product: unlimited agent sessions, unlimited machines of your own, every supported agent CLI, and your own provider keys. There is no card, no trial clock, and no session cap. What Free does not include is reaching a machine you are not sitting at — driving your desktop from your phone, from the web app, or from another computer. That is what Pro adds, alongside managed cloud machines, agent deployments and voice.

Why is remote access the paid feature?

Because it is the part that costs us something to run. An agent working on your own machine uses your hardware and your model credentials; we are not in that loop, so there is nothing for us to charge for. The moment you want to reach that machine from somewhere else, we are relaying the connection, holding your session open, tracking whether the machine is online and pushing you a notification when the agent needs an answer. We would rather charge for the thing we actually provide than meter the thing you already own.

What happens to my work if I stop paying?

Nothing is deleted and nothing is locked. You drop back to Free, which means you keep working on the machine you are sitting at exactly as before — same sessions, same keys, same agents. What you lose is remote reach and the cloud features. If you are over the Free storage allowance your existing files stay readable; you just cannot add more until you are back under it.

Can I self-host instead?

Yes. The server can run on your own infrastructure so no session data transits hardware you do not control. Contact licensing@consortium.dev for commercial self-hosting terms.
